Dir horticulture stresses keeping strict watch on pesticide trade

PULWAMA: Director Horticulture Kashmir, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat on Monday directed horticulture development officers to keep strict watch on pesticide trade and to report such traders selling spurious or substandard pesticides as per provisions of law.
Bhat was speaking during a visit to fruit plant nursery here at R P Nowgam. He was accompanied by chief horticulture officer Pulwama and other field officers.
He was appraised that mother plants and rootstock of cherry, almond and apricot have been planted. Chief horticulture officer Pulwama was instructed to explore the possibility of adequate irrigation facility in the nursery.
Directing the nursery staff to work with zeal, Bhat instructed for completing the pending works both civil as well as other developmental works in the nursery within the shortest possible time, an official release issued here read.
The director also visited the office of the Chief Horticulture Officer, Pulwama as well as block level offices and instructing the staff to remain punctual, dedicated and honest in performing the government duties and maintaining a close liaison with growers and orchardists, so that they get the benefits of the schemes under implementation in the district.
Bhat also directed for conducting awareness and training camps at village, block, tehsil and district levels to train the farmers and orchardists on various horticulture operations and benefits for establishment of the high density orchards, the release read.
He also inspected Fruit Plant Nursery Tumelhal and took stock of the various developmental activities.
The director also visited various food processing and CA store projects established by private entrepreneurs at Industrial Estate, Lassipora. During the visit, Bhat interacted with the entrepreneurs and fruit growers and ensured them of every possible support from the department, it added..
