DeM condemns prolonged detention of Asiya, aides

Srinagar: Dukhtaran-e-Millat on Tuesday condemned the prolonged detention of its chairperson Asiya Andrabi, secretary general Nahida Nasreen and political secretary Sofi Fehmeeda.
In a statement, a spokeswomen said that it is extremely deplorable that the detention of the trio is being prolonged despite the fact that not a single charge has been proven against them.
She said that the investigation agency every other day asks for one document or the other. “This is being done just to drag the flimsy case against the trio and keep them behind bars,” she added.
“The trio has been under illegal detention for more than one year and again the court has listed the case for May 30,” she said.
She questioned the rationale of the judiciary and said that if not a single charge has been proven against the trio why are they being held behind the bars. “If there is any proof against them, why is not it being produced before the court,” she questioned.
She appealed the world human rights organisations to take up the matter and intervene. “The Amnesty has a responsibility and it should at the earliest fulfils it,” she said.
She said that the health of the trio has continuously been worsening. “The medical conditions of the trio is worsening and will worsen further if they are not released,” she said.
