Bureaucracy feeds wrong info to Governor: BJP

Srinagar: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday questioned Governor SP Malik’s claim that slain BJP politician Gul Mohammad Mir was never categorised as a protected person saying “Why was he (Mir) provided two security guards?”.
BJP general secretary Ashol Kaul told Kashmir Reader that the slain Mir was protected by two policemen who were withdrawn early this year.
“Governor sahib is being provided wrong information by bureaucracy. He is following the administration,” Kaul said, adding that the party will be holding a protest in Srinagar against withdrawal of security from its politicians.
Mir, a BJP vice-president for Anantnag, was killed on May 4 after militants barged into his residence at Verinag’s Nowgam village in Anantnag district. He was actively participating in BJP programmes and had unsuccessfully contested two assembly elections from Dooru in 2008 and 2014. Inspired by former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, he would prefix “Atal” to his name and was known for reciting Naats at the events of the party. A video circulated on social media showed him praying for the success for BJP’s Anantnag parliamentary constituency candidate, Sofi Yousuf. With a long white flowing beard, he was also associated with the BJP Muslim Morcha.
In a video shot in March, he urged people to vote for Sofi, describing BJP as “party of people”.
Kaul cited letters written to the police’s security wing about giving security cover to Mir. “We had requested the SSP for his security. Former Deputy CM Nirmal Singh had specifically sought protection for him. Our grievance cell had sought security for Mir,” he added.
