Ramadan in India, Pakistan to begin Tuesday

SRINAGAR: New moon was not sighted on Sunday, hence Monday will be 30th Shaban 1440H and the first day of Ramadan this year will be Tuesday, May 7, 2019, Imarat-e-Sharia, Jamiat Ulema Hind, New Delhi, India and Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, Pakistan announced in two separate statements.
Similar announcements were made by moon sighting committees in various parts of India including Mumbai, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Patna, Muzaffarpur, Kolkata, Mewat and Burhanpur.
On the other hand, the National Moon Sighting Committee of Bangladesh said it will hold a meeting Monday May 06, 2019 corresponding to 29th Shaban 1440H in Bangaldesh to decide the first day of Ramadan in the country.
Saudi Arabia has already announced that the first day of Ramadan in the Kingdom will be Monday May 06, 2019. The United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait and other Arab states rely on moon announcement by Saudi Arabia.
Qatar in a separate statement announced that first day of Ramadan in the country will be Monday May 06, 2019.
Australia was the first country to announce start of Ramadan on Monday May 06, 2019. United States, United Kingdom, Canada and other western countries will also start Ramadan either on Monday or a day later.
