More than 60 arrested in night raids by police

SHOPIAN: Four days ahead of parliamentary polls in Shopian and Pulwama districts, police arrested more than 60 persons in night raids conducted in different villages on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.
The raids were conducted at DK Pora, Nadigam, Vehil, and Narwav villages of Shopian district and at Tahab, Parigam and Chewakalan villages of Pulwama district.
Police sources said that six persons were arrested from Vehil and Narwav villages during nocturnal raids. They identified the persons arrested as Rafee Ahmad Lone, Towseef Yaqoob Ganie, Yasir Yaqoob Ganie, residents of Narwav, and Muhammad Ashraf Bhat and Sameer Ahmad Bhat from neighbouring Vehil village.
Similarly, ten persons were arrested during raids in Nadigam village. The arrested persons were identified by locals as Bilal Ahmad Dar, Aijaz Ahmad Malik, Aamir Malik, Shakir Ganie, Aamir Ganie, Waseem Tantry, Yasir Chopan, Firdous Malik, Basit Tantry and Shahid Nazir.
Locals from Chewakalan village in Pulwama told Kashmir Reader that 18 persons were arrested by government forces in nocturnal raids. They said that students were also among those arrested.
Reports said that 20 persons were arrested from Tahab village in Pulwama in night raids and three persons arrested from Parigam village in Pulwama district.
Before these raids and arrests, in the past three days, more than three dozen persons were arrested by police in the twin districts.
