Former BJP worker shot at in Tral

Anantnag: A 45-year-old former BJP worker was shot at and injured by unidentified gunmen late Thursday evening in Tral area of south kashmir’s Pulwama district.
The injured has been identified as 40 year old Abdul Rashid Bhat alias Madan Lal son of Ghulam Ahmad of Kuchmulla village in Tral.
The incident, as per police, occurred in Kuchmulla village at about 8:30 pm.
“He was shot at right outside his home, while returning from a local Masjid,” a senior police official from the area told Kashmir Reader. He said that Bhat was shot in the leg and was immediately shifted to Sub-District Hospital Tral for treatment.
He is stable, he added.
There were reports that the injured was a Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) worker. The police, however, maintained that the facts were yet to be ascertained. BJP state spokesman Altaf Thakur told a news agency that Bhat was affiliated with the saffron party only till 2014.
“We are looking into the matter. A case has been registered and investigation has been taken up,” the police official said.
Meanwhile the Kachmulla area was cordoned off and searches were being carried out while this report was being filed.
