Baramulla Kandi areas protest power shortage

Baramulla: Residents from Kandi area of Baramulla district Thursday staged a protest against power shortage in the area.
Witnesses said a large number of people from Chandosa, Faqeerbagh, Sultanpora and other villages staged a protest against the power development department (PDD).
Protestors blocked the Baramulla-Babareshi road at Faqeerbagh Chowk for hours.
They said that the area was facing acute power shortage since November when a receiving station in the area was damaged.
“Our receiving station at Chandosa was damaged last year, then department installed a 3.5 MVA transformer against the 6.5, due to which we are facing shortage of electricity, we met with concerned engineer, deputy commissioner and other officials but they yet not solved our problem” Fayaz Ahmad Beigh, a local resident said. He said that with the holy month of Ramzan arriving they want a regular power supply.
A team from police station Chandosa headed by SHO assured the protestors that their concerns would be taken to concerned department, after which the traffic movement was restored.
Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Gulam Nabi Itoo said that a new transformer would be installed in the area very soon.
