Shopian: The state Congress on Monday held a convention cum campaign programme at circuit house Shopian where hundreds of party workers were present. State congress president and candidate for Anantnag parliament seat, Ghulam Ahmed Mir addressed the gather and promised an end to AFSPA PSA and arrest spree.
Mir said that the highway ban and mass arrests were deliberate moves by BJP and Shiv Sena to impose emergency in Kashmir.
“Congress will review all anti-people moves to ensure justice,” he said adding that people were punished for the faults “which were not theirs”.
He said that time has arrived when people have to answer the “mis-governence” by PDP-BJP government “which brought nothing but miseries to people, particularly Shopian and Pulwama”.
“Ban on highway, educational institutions, mass arrests in south Kashmir are very unfortunate and condemnable on the part of both state and central governments” he said.
He added that BJP had sensed defeat leading it to “victimizing people of Kashmir one way or the other to divert the attention of the nation from their failures”,
Mir also took jibe at PDP and NC blaming them of playing politics on the ban on highways and educational institutions,
“The fact of the matter is both (PDP and NC) were least bothered about such anti-people moves, their only concern and aim was to gain political mileage to get benefitted in the ongoing elections.”
Tight security measures were made by the district administration for the function. Political parties have so far found the government circuit house in Shopain as the lone safe place to hold gathering.
Several other party leaders addressed the gathering.
