Applicants for KU non-teaching posts waiting without word for almost a year

SRINAGAR: Last May, the University of Kashmir advertised 23 non-teaching posts and fixed sixteen “terms and conditions and other requirements” for the applicants to fulfill.
A year down the line, the hundreds of applicants wonder what happened to the recruitment process after they submitted their applications for the posts for which the KU charged each of them 500-odd bucks.
“There is no clue about any progress in the recruitment process. We don’t even know what the selection criteria for the jobs are,” an agitated applicant told Kashmir Reader.
Other than merely collecting application fees from the candidates, the varsity has neither conducted any screening test nor has it issued any communication to them about its plans, aggrieved candidates told Kashmir Reader.
While the KU has kept the applicants guessing for almost a year now, the terms and conditions attached with the recruitment notification, however, appear to have put the university amply in the clear beforehand.
“Mere submission of application form for the advertised posts… does not itself entitle any applicant to be called for Written Test/ Computer Test/ Physical Fitness Test and/ or interview,” reads one of the terms and conditions.
Another condition in fact goes further, saying, “The University reserves the right not to fill up any of the vacancies advertised, if circumstances so warrant, without assigning any reason thereof.”
Now, if the latter is true, the candidates wonder what could be the “circumstances” that led to the KU’s decision to not fill the posts.
Even as the recruitment is stuck for the last year, the Assistant Registrar Recruitment at KU, Muzammil Masood, interestingly cited the ongoing parliamentary elections as the reason for the same.
Masood however said that a common written examination for the posts will be held in coming days.
It bears mention that the said non-teaching posts advertised on May 16 last year were spread across different departments and sections of the KU.
The posts included instructors, lab assistants, legal assistants, a coach and a photographer besides others.
While the last date for submission of online forms/deposition of fee was fixed as June 18 last year, the last date for submission of hard copies was last June 23, as per the advertisement notification.
