Milk sellers asked to use dummies for display

Srinagar: Food Safety Commissioner J&K, Dr Abdul Kabir Dar has emphasized on food business operators to avoid displaying milk and milk products outside the shops in open, as the exposure to light and heat may lead to spoilage.
He instead asked them to use display boards and dummies, for which he directed milk plants and product manufacturers to provide display boards and dummy versions of pouch milk, yoghurt and cottage cheese to retailers, “so that safe and quality milk & milk products are availed by the consumers without compromising business of the FBOs”.
Dar chaired a review meeting of the special drives taken by the enforcement teams of the department on milk products across the state.
He said that if not handled properly under proper temperature at all levels of supply chain, the milk and milk products can prove quite harmful.
Commenting on the recently concluded Milk Quality Survey in J&K held in collaboration with Vimta Labs Hyderabad, commissioner appreciated the work done of the enforcement staff. He also appreciated the food business operators for their feedback and compliance to the recent advisory.
He said that it is good to see the shopkeepers following the regulations issued by the commissionerate but added that there was a wide need to educate them further.
The Commissionerate of Food Safety J&K had earlier this week issued an advisory on milk and milk products for the awareness of food business operators especially dealing with processing/sale/storage of milk and milk products wherein they were asked to adhere to the given guidelines for ensuring safe and quality food items to the general public.
