JRL shutdown today against ‘ill-treatment’ to Yasin Malik

SRINAGAR: The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) has called for a valley-wide protest shutdown on Tuesday against the “ill-treatment” meted out to the ailing and incarcerated JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik by NIA at Delhi and the “ongoing aggression” of NIA and ED against Kashmiri resistance leaders, their kith and kin, activists, senior businessmen, and trade union leaders.
JRL in a statement said NIA’s “highhandedness” has forced Yasin Malik – who is one of the JRL leaders besides Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq – to go on a hunger strike.
Today, the hunger strike of Yasin Malik, who is admitted at RML Hospital Delhi, has entered 12th day and his life is in danger while the rulers and their agencies are busy in playing with his life callously, JRL said.
“From early 2017, Indian state in its pursuit to take revenge from Kashmiris for not budging before tyranny started NIA terrorism. A concocted and frivolous case was formulated and many resistance leaders, businessmen and journalists were targeted, arrested, summoned to Delhi and investigated,” the leadership said.
“Many including Shabir Ahmad Shah, Altaf Ahmad Shah, Shahid-ul-Islam, Ayaz Akbar, Peer Saifullah, Raja Meraj-ud-Din Kalwal, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Farooq Ahmad Dar @ Bitta Karatay, businessmen Zahoor Ahmad Watali and Muhammad Aslam, Javid Ahmad and Shahid Yousuf Shah along with ailing Syeda Aasiya Andrabi, Fehmeeda Sofi and Nahida Nasreen were arrested and kept in Tihar Jail, Delhi,” it said.
JRL leader and Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Muhammad Umar Farooq was summoned to Delhi recently. Not only this, Syed Naeem Geelani and Syed Naseem Geelani – the two sons of ailing senior leader Syed Ali Geelani – are being continuously summoned and interrogated by NIA since 2017. Besides this, a maligning campaign was launched through media against Kashmiri resistance which is in fact going on unabated,” the leadership said.
“It is against these arbitrary illegal and tyrannical measures unleashed by Indian rulers using NIA and ED tools that JRL leader Yasin Malik protested against and has started a hunger strike as a mark of protest against highhandedness,” JRL said and appealed the people of Kashmir to observe a complete shutdown.
JRL also termed the ban on civilian traffic on highway as “most undemocratic and inhuman act” saying this amounts to gross human rights violation.
Similarly, the orders by the Government of India to stop trade across LoC has put the lives and economy of thousands into jeopardy, JRL said, adding, “These revengeful and dictatorial orders deserve condemnation from one and all.”
