Srinagar: A militant was killed in a brief shootout in north Kashmir’s Sopore on late Friday evening.
According to reports that militants and government forces exchanged fire resulting in the brief encounter at Sopore Watergam.
Army and police cordoned off the village and started a search operation during which firing incident occurred.
Reports said that militants and government forces exchanged brief fire after a army’s 32RR patrolling party was passing through the area.
A senior police officer told GNS that a army patrolling party was passing through the area when hiding militants fired upon them triggering a brief exchange of fire.
He said that a militant was killed.
As per the sources one pistols and three grenades were recovered from the slain militant. However, the identity of the slain militant was not ascertained yet.
