India’s secular fabric at stake if BJP returns to power: Mehbooba

Srinagar: Former J&K chief minister and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti has said she is “scared” if the BJP returns to power as the entire secular fabric of India is at stake.
“I am scared for the country and for Jammu and Kashmir if the same set-up returns (to power). The way people are being lynched and the accused garlanded, the entire secular fabric is at stake,” Mehbooba told India Today in an interview.
She was quoted having said that BJP is resorting to “polarization” and adopting ‘Pakistan-bashing and muscular policy’ in Jammu and Kashmir because it “failed” to resolve issues jobs and farmers distress.
Criticising the government of India’s ban on Jamaat-e-Islaami and JKLF, she said bans are not “effective”.
“You may secure some kind of calm on the surface, but it eventually adds fuel to the fire,” she was quoted as having said.
