SRINAGAR: College of Nursing, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) Rajouri observed a lamp lighting and oath taking ceremony on Thursday. Vice Chancellor Prof Javed Musarrat was the chief guest on the occasion.
A total of 40 novice nurses received the light from the chief guest Prof Javed Musarrat along with Dean Academic Affairs Prof Iqbal Parwez and Registrar Dr Ashafq Ahmed Zarri, a statement issued by the university said.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Javed Musarrat said nursing is a noble and challenging profession and plays an important role in providing care to humanity. He said nursing is a very important part of the medical facilities offered anywhere in the country and world.
“Along with medical care, patients also need the empathy and warmth of nursing. The profession is the backbone of the medical care system. Lots of new developments are taking place in the nursing profession and new entrants need to ensure that they keep themselves updated with adequate skills and specialisation,” Prof Musarrat said. “There is an ever-increasing demand of nursing professionals to augment the health care system.”
Prof Musarrat said three nursing colleges of the university will be the major contributor in providing trained human resources in the healthcare sector of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. He congratulated all the new students on joining BGSB College of Nursing.
In his remarks, Prof Iqbal Parwez said the bright flame today has come to symbolise knowledge, enlightenment, experience and hope. “Lighting a lamp is not just lighting up a flame but instead it is lighting up a ray of hope and love,” he said and advised the students to work hard to become a nurse with good knowledge, good skills and perfect attitude to serve the community.
Dr Zarri congratulated the student nurses for being into the noble profession. “Nurses should not miss any opportunities for better learning in caring,” she said.
On the occasion, vice chancellor distributed prizes among the students who participated in various activities of the college.
Dr Titi, principal of the college, presented the welcome address. Vijayasree, faculty of the college proposed the vote of thanks.
Those who were present on the occasion included deans, heads, officers, faculty members and students of college of nursing.
