BUDGAM: Massive clashes broke out between government forces and youths in Beerwah town in Budgam district on Wednesday after the election staff deployment came under stone-pelting.
Sources told Kashmir Reader that as the polling staff reached the main market of Beerwah, scores of people pelted them with stones and chanted anti-India slogans.
Government forces accompanying the election staff immediately resorted to teargas shelling to disperse the stone-pelting protesters, causing chaos in the area.
Eyewitnesses said that shopkeepers quickly downed their shutters and everyone started running for safety.
Budgam district is part of the Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency and is going to polls on Thursday.
