Chattergul (Anantnag): Senior Congress leader and former J&K chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said on Tuesday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) cannot remove Article 370 of the Indian Constitution till the Congress party exists.
“Even if they rule for 200 more years, till the Congress party exists, they will not be able to remove Article370,” Azad told reporters after addressing a public rally in Chattergul village in Shangus area of Anantnag district.
The Anantnag Lok Sabha seat is scheduled to go to polls on April 23 for the first phase. The poling for the seat has been spread over three phases.
In the run-up to the first day of voting, Azad visited three different places in Anantnag district, including Larnoo in Kokernag, Kapran, and Chattergul village on Tuesday.
He had an interaction with media persons following his public speech. Azad was asked about the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) decision to ban Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Aditayanath and former chief minister Mayawati from campaigning for three days, starting April 16, for making speeches propagating communal hatred.
“I think the need of the hour is to ban the Prime Minister and all BJP leaders for the next month,” Azad said in response, adding that the BJP has failed on every front and has only managed to polarise the country.
“The only thing they have been good at has been creating divides between the Hindus and the Muslims of this country. Everyone in this country today feels cheated by the BJP,” Azad said.
Azad said that the BJP has realised they are losing these elections and therefore they will try to polarise the country even further.
“The only other thing they know is tampering with the Electronic Voting Machines (EVM’s),” Azad said. “They are now being called ‘Machine Tod’ and ‘Machine Chor’ party.”
Azad said that if a free and fair election takes place, the BJP will be wiped out from the country.
