Women arrested earlier in the case befriended employees, officials at SKIMS: police
Srinagar: After arresting two women, police in Srinagar have arrested one more person in connection with the fake appointment scam at Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura.
According to sources, the arrested person is a male and has been charged with fraud and forgery. He and the two women accused are said to have duped hundreds of people by issuing fake appointment orders in their favour in return for money.
“The appointment orders were issued for various departments, including landscape maintenance, nursing, housekeeping, and other administrative wings,” sources said.
As per the initial investigation of police, the accused persons forged appointment orders and identity cards of SKIMS Soura staff, with the help of some tech-savvy person who used his computer skills to make the fake documents look real.
Police sources said that the accused females would visit SKIMS Soura regularly and socialise with employees and officers in different sections of the institute to befriend them.
“The accused females have been visiting SKIMS regularly for long time and socialising with officials there on one pretext or the other. It helped in convincing the candidates to agree to the payment. We are also investigating the involvement of an insider in the case,” said a police official.
He said that after convincing the candidates, the accused would prepare fake documents to trap people.
“So far, the accused persons have collected more than Rs 1 crore from the candidates after promising them jobs in various sections of the institute,” the police official told Kashmir Reader.
Last week, police had registered a case (FIR 16/2019) under sections 420 (fraud) and 467 (forgery) in the fake appointment case in SKIMS Soura and arrested two females.
