Bijbehara: Former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on Monday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) may enact another “Balakot like drama” to boost their chances in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
“Nothing has worked for Narendra Modi. Whether it was trying to fan communal riots, polarising people, or for that matter enacting the drama of Balakot strikes,” Mehbooba said. “They have seen that their defeat in the elections is imminent, given how people have voted in the first phase.”
Mehbooba said this while interacting with media persons after addressing a small gathering of party workers in her hometown, Bijbehara.
Mehbooba said that the BJP and Narendra Modi were desperate to do better in the remaining phases of the Parliament elections.
“And in their frustration to win, I believe, another Balakot like drama might be enacted,” Mehbooba said. After all, these things are aimed at garnering votes, be it attacking Pakistan or making things difficult for the people of Kashmir,” she said.
She was asked by reporters about former Mizoram Governor Aziz Qureshi’s comments regarding Pulwama attack of February 14, wherein he alleged that the attack was “planned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
Mehbooba said that there were other leaders and some well-meaning people who had raised questions regarding the attack.
“Mamata Banerjee, Mayawati and some other leaders have also raised questions about Pulwama attack,” Mehbooba said, adding that an impartial inquiry should be conducted into the attack and the questions pertaining to it should be answered.
