Srinagar: Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) chairman Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai on Saturday denounced the shifting of political and religious detainees lodged in Jammu jails to the jails outside the valley and termed it as “political vengeance” having no legal and moral justification.
In a statement, Sehrai said among those shifted included Dr Hameed Fayaz, Mushtaq Ahmed Veeri, Mushtaq Ahmed Hurra, Bashir Ahmed Soliha, Shakeel Ahmed Pandit, Sami Ullah Bhat and other dozens of socio-religious and political activists.
Sehrai also condemned slapping of PSA on Sheikh Mohammad Ramzaan, Javeed Khan, Rameez Ahmed Shah, Gulzar Ahmed Ganai and shifting them to the jails outside the valley.
“All these inmates are being shifting to outside jails which is a blatant violation of the basic rights of prisoners under the international law to which India is also a signatory,” he said, adding the move not only is against the principles of democracy – but a blatant violation of the Supreme Court guidelines.
Sehrai while vehemently condemning the shifting of political prisoners and detainees to the jails outside the valley appealed to the International and local human rights institutions to take cognisance of these “inhuman methods to suppress Kashmiris”.
