Srinagar: Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM) on Saturday slammed the “deliberate attempts” by judiciary to prolong the detention of its party leaders – Asiya Andrabi, Nahida Nasreen and Sufi Fahmida.
In a statement, the spokeswomen said: “The trio were once again produced before NIA court on April 11. The NIA has failed to present all the required papers in front of the court. However, the court is giving new renewal dates to fulfil their tactics to prolong the custody of the trio and consequently keep them under detention. And now the new date has been set on May 6, 2019.”
She further said that that due to lack of facilities in the Tihar Jail, Sufi Fehmeeda has become very ill and Asiya Andrabi too needs medical care.
She demanded the Amnesty International and the human rights bodies should play a pro-active role to press for the release of the trio.
“International organizations do not even speak about the trio. They have a role to play but unfortunately they are silent in this matter. We appeal them to intervene and seek the release of the trio,” she said.
