Budgam: Two leopards were caught alive in Chewdara village in Beerwah tehsil of Budgam district Wednesday by Wildlife department with the help of local youth, while as a youth was injured by one of the leopards.
Ishfaq Ahmad Sheikh received minor injuries when the leopard attacked him, as officials and local youth were trying to capture the leopards, local residents said.
Local residents said that they saw two leopards roaming in agricultural lands in the morning creating panic in the entire village.
The villagers said that they contacted Wildlife department, and in the meanwhile youth from the village reached the spot to keep the leopard away from village.
“The youth reached the spot, so the leopards couldn’t enter the village till the wildlife department reached the spot,” they said.
They added that the local youths later helped the wildlife officials catch the leopard, during which one youth was attacked and injured by the beast.
Mohammad Yousuf, an official from Wetland Division Hokarsar, who was present on the spot, told Kashmir Reader that two leopards were caught alive from the village with the help of local youth.
