Triangular contest between NC, Sajjad Lone’s PC, and Er Rasheed

Baramulla: Security was beefed up in the three districts of north Kashmir that constitute the Baramulla Lok Sabha seat, a day ahead of parliament elections to be held on Thursday.
In Kupwara, Bandipora and Baramulla districts, hundreds of troops including CRPF, police, army and other security forces were deployed in and around all the polling stations as well in all towns and villages to avoid any untoward incident.
Sources said that dozens of people, mostly former workers of the recently banned Jama’at-e-Islami, as well as known stone-pelters were detained by police in night raids conducted in all the major towns in north Kashmir on Tuesday night. Police were in search of more people to take into custody, sources said, adding that several people were called by phone to police stations, where they were put behind bars during the past week.
The sources said that police and army installed scores of check posts on major roads including Baramulla-Srinagar, Kupwara-Baramulla, Sopore-Bandipora and other major roads.
The sources also said that dozens of motorcycles and cars were seized by police in the past week in Baramulla, Sopore, Handwara, Kupwara, and Hajin areas on account of incomplete documents. Sources said that security forces were seizing vehicles particularly out of fear of a suicide car bomb attack like the one on February 14 in south Kashmir, which killed 49 CRPF troops travelling in a convoy on the national highway.
Sources said that there will be a triangular flight between National Conference (NC), Sajjad Lone’s People’s Conference (PC), Engineer Rasheed of Awami Ittehad Party (AIP).
