SRINAGAR: Stating that no power on earth can revoke Article 370, District Congress Committee (DCC) Srinagar President Irfan Naqib on Monday termed the ruling BJP’s election manifesto as an “election jumla”.
In a statement issued here, Naqib said, “After failing to deliver on its promises for the last five years, the Saffron party is trying to divert the attention of people from real issues by raking up old issues.”
“In order to divert public attention from its failure and to prevent poverty and unemployment from becoming real election issues, the BJP and its Prime Minister are trying to rake up all dead issues,” he said.
“This is most condemnable, and people should remain cautious,” he said while accusing that the BJP was hell-bent upon tinkering with the special status of Jammu and Kashmir to regain the lost ground.
“But no power can revoke Article 370 or Article 35A as it is a strong link and a bridge between J&K and India,” he said.
“The BJP also knows the sensitivity of the issue and that is why it has not done anything to these constitutional provisions in the last five years. This is just an election ‘jumla’ (gimmick) and people of the country are not giving the BJP a mandate again,” the Congress leader added.
Noting that the history of the Indian national movement and the history of the Congress are well documented, he said, Congress is a party of 132 crore Indians, and will remain so.
“The BJP’s end is nearing as people of the country will evict them from power in the coming Lok Sabha elections. Congress is the only party in the country which can give a strong, stable and a secular government,” Naqib said.
