Promises development of Gulmarg, Baba Reshi on modern lines
SRINAGAR: Urging people to vote for National Conference (NC) in Thursday’s parliament polls, party leader Farooq Ahmad Shah on Monday said voting NC to power would benefit the Gulmarg constituency which he said has been ignored on all fronts during the last more than a decade.
Addressing public meetings at Khimendarpora, Pazalpora, Zaspora, Ratnipora, Rehpora, Bichpora, Sonalipora, Heer, Hariwatnoo, Kralpora, Kampora, Gutlipora, Chandilora, Shrai, Treran etc, Shah said despite having abundant tourism potential, the youth in majority of the area of Gulmarg constituency were craving for employment and livelihood.
He said only Gulmarg and Baba Reshi would have generated huge employment opportunities for local youth but “unfortunately that didn’t happen as local politicians who ruled the constituency during last sixteen years were not interested in it”.
“Youth are the real assets of a society but in my constituency, this asset has been rusted and thrown to disillusion and helplessness,” Shah said.
Pledging to focus on the welfare of youth, Shah said in National Conference government under Omar Abdullah, the youth would be a major priority.
He said a haul of initiatives would be taken in Gulmarg to empower youth and provide them opportunity.
The former bureaucrat added that Gulmarg and Baba Reshi would be promoted and developed on modern lines not only to boost the local economy but also to provide the employment opportunities for youth.
“The village tourism concept would be flourished and extended to the length and breadth of the constituency which would bring development at doorstep besides opening up the avenues of income for the families,” he said.
While regretting over the poor condition of roads, electricity and other basic amenities, the former IAS officer said development was the prime concern of the constituency which would be addressed in the coming times.
