Srinagar: The Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani on Sunday condemned the summoning of his other son – Naeem Geelani by the NIA and said that “the government of India have stooped to the lowest level of moral and ethical bankruptcy, which no sane person can even think of”.
In a statement issued here, Geelani said: “We have explained our point of view in closed doors as well as in public.”
“I have been caged in my four walled residence for the last 9 years. I have not been allowed to attend any social function also. After putting a siege around me, they have targeted my family. Earlier my younger son Naseem Geelani was summoned by both NIA and ED and now my elder son Naeem has been called by NIA to Delhi,” the pro-freedom leader said.
He said that Naeem is a heart patient under regular supervision of doctors and psychological stress can be very fatal for him.
The Hurriyat chairman said that if questioning anybody including my son is must, they can do so in the valley.
“Delhi rulers and its agencies harass and intimidate my family just to pressurise me, but these cowardly acts will yield them nothing,” he said, adding: “In 2017 also, when ghost of NIA threatened every freedom loving person, particularly their families including common and businessman, we voluntarily offered ourselves to be questioned by the investigating agency, but very cunningly the authorities didn’t dare to face us.”
Geelani said that if Delhi rulers treat us as law breakers and want to clarify their doubt’s, “I once again offer myself for such questioning and my past more than 50 years political career stands testimony to the fact that all the agencies, overt or covert, are well aware of my political stand”.
“I have been facing atrocities, curbs, jails, interrogation for the last 7 decades and how can they even think of any compromise by me using such mean and childish actions of threatening and humiliating my children,” he stated.
He said that “I have consciously and will fully adopted this torturous and thorny path of perusing the movement for the basic and fundamental rights of my nation, and no power on earth can deter me from this holy mission”.
The Hurriyat chairman said that such manoeuvring, much hyped-drama and sensational media narratives may have electoral dividends for the ruling class, but can never lease their stay for too long.
Strongly condemning the incident in Srinagar Central jail, Geelani said that Kashmiris are neither safe in their houses nor outside and now jails are also unsafe from them.
He said that one or the other pretext, “prisoners are harassed and humiliated for so long, but now they are being physically harmed with lathis and bullets”.
“Helpless inmates are completely at the mercy of jail authorities and torturing and brutalizing them is grossly inhuman and unethical,” he stated.
He appealed to the world human rights bodies to take this issue seriously and make the culprits accountable.
