Shopian: Thousands participated on Sunday in the funeral prayers of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Bilal Ahmad at his ancestral village Keegam in Shopian district. Clashes also broke out between youths and government forces during the funeral prayers in which several youths were reportedly injured.
A shutdown was observed in entire Shopian district against the killing of local militant Bilal and his associate, Rahil Sheikh of Ganderbal, by government forces on Saturday. The two militants were killed in an orchard that lies between the three villages of Losedenow, Pargochi and Khurampora.
Thousands of men, women and children participated in the funeral prayers of Bilal in Shopian district and raised pro-freedom and anti-India slogans. Witnesses said that many people also raised the flag of Pakistan at the funeral.
Bilal, according to locals, had joined militant ranks last year on July 31. They said he was active in Shopian and Pulwama districts since then.
Locals informed that before joining militancy, Bilal was working as a driver.
