Sopore: Suspected militants shot dead a Kashmiri army soldier at his home in Sopore area of north Kashmir on Saturday afternoon. The soldier was on leave from his duties at JAKLI regiment. Police sources said that suspected militants fired upon Mohammad Rafi Yatoo, son of Gulam Mohiudin Yatoo, a resident of Warpora village in police district Sopore when he was at home on leave.
The gunmen fired upon him from point-blank range, leaving Yatoo lying in a pool of blood, they said.
Family members and other people shifted Yatoo to a nearby hospital but doctors there declared him brought dead.
Locals said that soon after the shooting, a large number of army, police and CRPF troops reached the village and started searches.
Local sources said that Yatoo was a soldier in Indian Army’s JAKLI regiment and was at home on leave for the past few days.
Yatoo’s body had been taken for medical examination when this report was filed.
