Srinagar: An awareness and interactive programme about various geo-scientific studies activities of Geological Survey of India under the flagship program “Program 100×100 VAQ (Visibility, Activity, Quality) enhancements Model” was held at Srinagar last week.
The purpose of the model is to enhance visibility, increase activity and enrich quality of the organization. The program included inaugural and technical sessions besides showcasing of rock sample gallery and poster presentations.
Before the inauguration, Dr. Riyaz Ahmad Mir (Sr. Geologist, Geological Survey of India, Srinagar officer) briefed about the historical background of the organization and VAQ model.
In the event, the participants included D V Ganvir (Deputy Director General, GSI SU: J&K Srinagar), Dr. A S Sodhi- chief guest of the event (Deputy Director, Department of Geology & Mining, Srinagar), Professor Dr. Bashir Ahmad Mir- guest of honor of the event (Principle of Degree College Dooru, Anantnag), Rajesh Kumar Madan Lal (Additional Commissioner Income-Tax Office Srinagar), Mehraj-u-din Malik (Divisional Forest Officer, Demarcation Division, Srinagar), around 35 post-graduate, under-graduate, high school students and faculty members of Departments of Geology, Geography of AS college Srinagar, SP College Srinagar, SP Higher Secondary School Srinagar, several Geologists of State DGM.
The chief guest highlighted the geological activities of the DGM in the state whereas. The guest of honor highlighted the importance of geological sciences in the academic institutions.
The DDG GSI highlighted about conducting of vast geological activities of the organization in the country and the within the state of J&K. The DDG GSI highlighted the importance of geological sciences in the society and its various job opportunities taking the subject as a professional carrier option.
The DDG GSI also presented his research work entitled ““Conservation of world heritage site: BhimBetka Rock Shelter Madia-Pradesh”.
Other speakers while expressing their views highlighted the importance of conducting such programs to create awareness and interest in the masses about geological sciences that will finally lead to the development of scientific temper through inquisitive approach and critical analysis.
Muneer Qureshi (Sr Geologist and OIC, GSI Srinagar Office) presented a talk on the “Historical background and role of GSI Srinagar office”.
