SRINAGAR: A new body of Federation of University Teachers Associations of Kashmir (FUTAK) has been framed in a meeting convened at Kashmir University on Wednesday.
According to a statement issued here, President, Kashmir University Teachers Association (KUTA), Dr Muheet Ahmed Butt was elected as its Ex-Officio Chairman and General Secretary KUTA, Dr Mohammad Ishaq Geer as its Ex-Officio Secretary whereas Presidents of SKAUST-K Scientists and Teachers Association (SSTA), CUK Teachers Association and IUST Faculty Association will serve as its Executive Members.
The meeting was attended by the Presidents of Kashmir University Teachers Association (KUTA), SKAUST-Kashmir Teachers Association (SSTA), Central University of Kashmir Teachers Association (CUKTA) and Islamic University Faculty Association (IUFA).
The statement said the Chairmanship of the federation shall be rotated every two years from one member Association to the other. “It was resolved that all relevant issues and concerns commonly shared by the teaching faculty of these universities shall be raised at relevant quarters through the platform of this Federation and the issues of common concern of the society at large shall also be raised through this forum from time to time,” it said.
It said the overall goal of the Federation shall be to work together for the upliftment of educational and research standards of these universities and the welfare of their teaching faculties. “This Federation was originally constituted in the year 2016 by the Teachers Associations of all Kashmir-based Universities with a view to highlight genuine issues and grievances of faculty members working in these universities at the relevant fora,” the statement added.
