SRINAGAR: Asserting that all out attempts are being made to tinker with the Article 35-A and 370 to change the demography of the state and its disputed character, Hurriyat Conference (M) on Wednesday said it is people’s “strong resistance” that is preventing the rulers from undoing it.
A spokesperson of Hurriyat (M) in a statement issued here also termed the upcoming (parliamentary) elections as “futile exercise” and urged people to “stay away from this as it can in no way help in resolution of the basic issue of Kashmir”.
The amalgam reiterated that the lingering Kashmir issue is a political and human problem that needs to be resolved in its historical perspective for the lasting peace in the conflict-torn Kashmir and the entire region.
The spokesperson said the people and the resistance leadership have repeatedly been urging New Delhi to resolve Kashmir issue peacefully through dialogue among the stakeholders – India, Pakistan and the people of J&K – but after the February 14 attack, the “repression” has increased.
There has been a policy of banning political and socio religious organisations, arresting leadership and activists of these parties under draconian PSAs, shifting them to outside prisons, and using NIA and ED to harass and intimidate the resistance leaders and their family members, he said.
He said Kashmir has been converted into a military garrison and an atmosphere of fear has been created to intimidate people and choke them.
The Hurriyat (M) spokesperson said New Delhi should take efforts to speed up the resolution of the Kashmir dispute by pushing all parties to a table for dialogue.
“At a time when the leadership has been lodged in jails and confined to their homes, every segment of society has to play its part to contribute towards the Kashmir struggle by remaining steadfast and united,” the spokesperson said.
“People have to have faith that their supreme sacrifices and patience will In Sha Allah be rewarded as there is no other option other than resolution of the lingering issue,” he said.
