Bandipora: Lambasting his political rival for hypocrisy, Omar Abdullah said that Mehbooba Mufti’s “crocodile tears” would be of no help to her now. He said that the ban on Jama’at-e-Islami and JKLF was imposed by the central government and it was not in Mehbooba Mufti’s hands to revoke it, as she had been promising to do in her election rallies recently.
“Ban on Jama’at and JKLF is not from the state but from the centre. It’s not up to her to remove the central government’s ban even if she tries a thousand times or promises to revoke the ban,” Omar said while speaking to media persons at his party’s election campaign rally in Bandipora.
“It is Mehbooba Mufti herself who helped the BJP form government in Jammu and Kashmir. Shunning crocodile tears now won’t help her,” Omar said.
On what the state government could do about the ban, he said, “We will have to convince the centre to remove the ban on these organisations. That’s why we are fighting elections against the BJP. There is a need to remain vigilant against the BJP and against their friends here who tried to make a BJP candidate the CM a few months back.”
Omar said that if the government at the centre changes after the elections, his party would work for removing the ban.
“God willing, after we change the government at the centre, we will start our work in revoking the ban on Jama’at and JKLF,” he said.
