SRINAGAR: The casual labourers of twin departments of Public Health Engineering (PHE) and Irrigation & Flood Control on Monday held a joint protest demonstration here demanding release of their pending wages and regularisation of their services.
Scores of protesters from PHE and I&FC assembled in Pratap Park holding placards and chanting slogans in favour of their demands.
The protesting employees said that they are demanding release of their pending wages which are pending with the departments from last many years.
President of casual and seasonal labourers association of I&FC, Imran Ahmad Parry said that their wages are pending with the department from last 30 months.
“The seasonal labours in the flood control department are working for whole year but are being paid for six months only,” he said.
He said they are demanding the government to release their wages and convert them to casual labourers which is already mentioned in SRO 520.
“We are facing hardships in our daily life and due to the non availability of money we are unable to pay the schooling fee of our children,” Parray said.
The protesters requested the Governor administration to look into the matter on priority and release their pending wages.
