Takes stock of progress on various ongoing projects
Anantnag: The District Development Commissioner Anantnag Khalid Jahangir on Sunday visited various places at Qazigund and Dooru to take stock of the progress on various ongoing projects and stressed for the early completion of the Banihal-Qazigund Road Tunnel. ACR Anantnag, SDM Dooru, Tehsildars of Qazigund, Dooru and Verinag and other officers accompanied the DDC.
The DDC took stock of the progress on 8.5-km-long Banihal-Qazigund Road Tunnel and directed the executing agency to start the work within one week. He said this tunnel has vital importance for the valley in terms of transportation and supply of basic essentials.
The experience of recent winter reinforces the need to complete the work of the tunnel within in this colander year, DDC said adding that since Banihal-Qazigund Road Tunnel project is one of the most prestigious projects in the country and ensures all-weather connectivity to Kashmir; therefore, it needs to be competed well in time to make it trafficable at an earliest.
The tunnel being of greater public interest and the lifeline for the overall development of the J&K State, would not only shorten the distance between Srinagar and Jammu but would also help in minimising the chances traffic jamming and will open new avenues of employment in different sectors, he said.
The DDC also visited Verinag garden to get apprised of the pace of various developmental works here. He instructed for levelling, landscaping and fencing of the JKTDC owned guest house and its lawn.
He also took stock of the progress of work on Tourist Bungalow Verinag and instructed the concerned to speed up the pace of work and maintain the aesthetic sense of the surroundings while constructing the said building.
The DDC instructed the Floriculture Department Anantnag for beautification of the Verinag garden and instructed the concerned department for plantation of various kinds of flowers, landscaping, construction of pathways, developing flowerbeds, fencing of the garden and ensuring availability of recreational facilities for the children in the garden.
Khalid Jahangir also visited Dooru, took stock of the construction of the Mini Secretariat and stressed for its early completion. He visited the Sub District Hospital (SDH) Dooru and verified about the facilities and healthcare being provided to the patients. He interacted with the patients there.
The DDC instructed the hospital authorities to provide round-the-clock availability of doctors and paramedical staff for the betterment of the patients. He asked the concerned to provide monthly progress report of the SDH.
Later, the DDC visited around the banks of Sandran Nallah and instructed for removal of all kinds of encroachments around the banks of the Nallah for free flowing of water in all seasons.
