Anantnag: Militants Saturday afternoon hurled a hand grenade at a CRPF bunker in main town Pulwama, leaving a trooper with splinter injuries.
The injured paramilitary man, Suraj Chand, was immediately rushed to hospital.
“He is out of danger,” a health official said.
The incident took place Friday afternoon in main town Pulwama, at about 3:40 PM.
“The grenade was hurled at a CRPF bunker guarding the local State Bank of India branch,” a senior police official said.
He said that the grenade exploded outside the bunker but one of the CRPF men recieved splinter injuries.
Following the explosion, a huge contingent of government forces reached the spot and carried out searches in the area.
In the neighbouring Anantnag district, meanwhile, militants escaped after a brief exchange of fire with government forces.
The exchange of fire took place in Kokernag area of Anantnag district at about midnight on Friday.
Authorities snapped mobile internet services across Anantnag district past midnight as forces intensified searches in the area.
The operation however was called off early Saturday morning as no fresh contact could be established with the militants.
Internet services in Anantnag were also restored later in the morning.
