Srinagar: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on Wednesday issued notice to the Deputy Commissioner Bandipora and the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bandipora to submit a detailed report on the killing of a 12-year-old boy in Hajin during a counter-insurgency operation.
Commission member Dilshada Shaheen issued notice to the officers for filing their report on the contentions of a petition that claimed that the minor boy was used as human shield and the security forces could have saved the minor but they blasted the house in which he was along with two militants. Police later recovered the half-charred body of the boy from the rubble of the blasted house.
The petitioner, human rights activist Ahsan Untoo, asked the SHRC how many boys have to die and how many families have to bear the trauma due to counter-insurgency operations in Kashmir. He questioned why there was no accountability and when justice would be delivered to the kin of victims?
The petitioner prayed before the Commission to investigate this horrific killing of a minor by the SHRC’s investigation wing so that the culprits are brought to justice.
The petitioner also demanded a compensation of Rs 50 lakh to the killed boy’s family.
