SRINAGAR: The contractors in Kashmir held a joint press conference here on Sunday demanding the release of their outstanding payments by the government and revocation of the circular of 15 percent payment.
The contractor’s from Jammu Kashmir Contractors Coordination Committee and Jammu Kashmir Central Contractors Coordination Committee led by Ghulam Jeelani Purza and Farooq Ahmad Dar criticised the government for putting them in financial distress and said that they have decided to go on hunger strike on Monday at chief engineer office Rajbagh for 24 hours.
Purza said that the government is doing injustice with the contractors for not releasing the outstanding payment of completed projects in the state.
“If the circular will not be revoked, the contractors will close all the projects and boycott all the development works in Kashmir till the government would take a decision regarding our demands,” Dar said.
“We have already locked down chief engineer offices in Srinagar due to the attitude of the government towards the contractors of Kashmir”, Dar added.
