SRINAGAR: With teachers at several schools “winding up” academic work in the second half on Fridays, Chief Education Officer Budgam has ordered that regular class work at schools “immediately be resumed” after the Friday prayers.
In a circular issued Saturday, the CEO Budgam has said, “It is enjoined upon all the Principals of Higher Secondary Schools/Zonal Education Officers/Headmasters of High Schools of district Budgam that regular class work shall immediately be resumed after offering Friday congregational prayers in order to ensure timely completion of academic calendar already in vogue”.
The circular has warned that “Any deviation in this regard shall be viewed seriously”.
“The DDOs concerned shall ensure 100 percent attendance of teachers and students after the prayers,” it added.
An official at the CEO Office Budgam told Kashmir Reader that the circular came after “many teachers were reported to be winding up class work after the Friday congregation prayers”.
“Even clerics at mosques highlighted the issue inside mosques. How can the teachers leave the class work midway after offering prayers?” he said.
“That is why we came up with the circular,” he added.
Although class work at most of the schools in Budgam resumes rightaway after Friday prayers, a teacher from the district said that many schools have made it a routine to wind up the class work of lower classes.
