SRINAGAR: Awami Ittihad Party (AIP) president and former MLA Langate Er Rasheed on Friday announced he will be contesting upcoming Lok Sabha election from north Kashmir. Addressing a press conference here, Rasheed also announced three names for parliamentary elections – Abdul Rayees Rather from Jammu Udhampur, Shahzad Shabnum Deewan from Jammu Poonch and Zubair Masoodi from south Kashmir. Rasheed said: “AIP which has been representing the sentiments and aspirations of people could not support any of the parties responsible for most of the miseries of people of Jammu and Kashmir.”
Appealing masses to support AIP, Er Rashid said, “People living in every nook and corner of the state are aware of the fact that during last ten years, AIP has never taken sides and has stood like a rock against all odds to represent and protect the sentiments and rights of people of State cutting across religious, regional and ethnic affiliations.” “While NC, PDP and PC are representing New Delhi in Kashmir, AIP has always represented Kashmir in every forum, everywhere without being apologetic or without compromising the truth,” he said.
“While other parties have huge resources, backing of state machinery, AIP’s only strength is its commitment towards people and its performance of last ten years which the party cadres have displayed not only in streets but at the floor of the Assembly,” Er Rasheed said.
