HAJIN: The lone sports ground of Hajin town in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district has thoroughfare plying through it composed of truck and tipper drivers ferrying construction materials through the region.

Aggrieved locals and sports lovers expressed their utter surprise over government claims that sports is a priority for it and huge money is being spent on its development – without anything being done at ground level.

According to local sports lovers, the town’s lone playing field has been in shambles for the past many months as tipper drivers are passing through the ground and making its condition vulnerable for sports activities.

Talking to Kashmir Reader, Zahid Zubir, a football player, said, “The situation of the ground is going from bad to worse since the truck and tipper drivers are taking their vehicles through it even though an alternative route to unload building materials is being constructed near the ground.”

Zubair added, “We requested the drivers many times not to pass through the ground, but they never paid any attention. If the traffic is not stopped by the officials, the ground will be damaged completely.”

Another sports lover, Asim Aijaz, said that, “Football and cricket season is at hand, but the ground is in a miserable condition and won’t be ready this season. It is sad to see that a field where teams from all over Kashmir come to play is in such a pathetic condition. If immediate steps are not taken, it will not be feasible for cricket or football,” Aijaz added.

“This beautiful ground is losing its sheen day by day due to thelack of maintenance” he said.
