SRINAGAR: Director Horticulture Kashmir, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat on Saturday visited District Kupwara to review the progress of departmental activities being executed under various GoI and state-sponsored schemes. He inspected the high density orchard established under high density plantation programme at Nowpora, Sopore and issued instructions for organising awareness/training camps in the said orchard to impart training on pruning of the high density orchard to field functionaries as well as orchardists.
Bhat also visited a training programme being conducted by the department highlighting the art of fruit preservation. He interacted with the trainees and desired that such training programme must also be organised in each district of the Valley, an official handout read.
To boost the production of dry fruits (walnut) in the district, director horticulture was apprised by chief horticulture officer, Kupwara that 10,000 walnut seedling have been grafted with high quality walnut selections and ten (10) qtl of walnut seed have been sown for raising the seedling of walnuts, it read.
Bhat also visited demonstration plot of walnut established by the department at Khumiriyal (Kupwara) which is spread over an area of 30 kanals with 300 walnut plants. He instructed to establish such demonstration plots in Tangdhar and Teetwal area of Kupwara.
He also reviewed the expenditure under all schemes and instructed officers as well as field staff to remain punctual, dedicated and honest in performing government duties, the handout added.
