Srinagar: A protest was staged by the Hurriyat (G) and Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) here Friday against the booking of Muhammad Yasin Malik, summoning Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Geelani’s son by the NIA, arrest spree and ban on Jama’at-e-Islamia.

According to the statement, a protest march was organized by the Hurriyat (G) at Hyderpora Srinagar and Budgam which was attended by Molvi Bashir Irfani, Ameer Hamza Shah, Bilal Sidqui, Syed Mohammad Shafi, Mohammad Maqbool Magami, Imtiyaz Ahmad Shah, Mohammad Amin Bhat, Imran Ahmad Bhat, Haji Qadous, Zahoor-ul-Haq Geelani, Mohammad Rafiq Shah and others. “Aga Syed Akeel Mouswi organized a protest rally in Budgam, which was scheduled to be headed by Aga Syed Hassan Mouswi, but he was put under house arrest,” it added.

The protesters condemned the incarceration of resistance. The leaders said that the people of Kashmir will safeguard the movement of right-to self-determination at all costs, it reads.


JKLF statement said: Acting on the program given by the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), JKLF leaders and activists gathered at Abi-Guzar, Lal-chowk and staged a peaceful protest against bullying of Mirwaiz Muhammad Umar Farooq, Syed Naseem Geelani and many others by NIA, slapping of PSA on JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik, vice president of Jamiat Ahlihadees Mushtaq Veeri, spokesman of Jama’at-e-Islami advocate Zahid Ali and hundreds of others.

“The protest was also held against the terrorist attack on Muslims in New-Zealand in which at least 50 people were killed,” it said.

JKLF vice chairman Showkat Ahmad Bakshi on the occasion condemned the human rights violations in Kashmir and also denounced the New Zealand Mosque attack.

“Various JKLF leaders including Showkat Ahmad Bakhshi, Sheikh Abdul Rashid, Muhammad Sideeq Shah, Professor Javed, and others participated in this protest program. Holding placards in hands and raising slogans against government policies, the protesters walked towards press enclave and staged a peaceful sit-in which was addressed by various leaders,” the statement said.

The leaders said that “on one hand is the police crackdown and on the other hand we are witnessing the raids and summons by NIA”.

Terming the repeated summoning of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Syed Naseem Geelani and others by NIA as the condemnable act, the JKLF leaders said that “New Delhi wants to intimidate resistance leadership by such mean tactics and all these oppressive measures are actually meant to defeat people’s revolution in Jammu Kashmir”.
