ANANTNAG: Director Horticulture Kashmir, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat on Thursday stressed on development of nurseries and putting all out efforts for production of quality fruit plants to the best interests of the growers (orchardists).
He was speaking during a visit to take stock of the developments related to the horticulture sector in Anantnag. After getting feedback from the officers, he inspected some block level offices as well as departmental nurseries in the district. During the course of inspection, on spot instructions to the officers as well as officials were given for achievement of targets as per the timeline, a handout read.
Further, officers were instructed to organise awareness camps at block/tehsil and district-level so as to educate the growers about the latest technical knowhow regarding fruit production and its allied concerns. Chief Horticulture Officer Anantnag was specially instructed to gear-up his men and machinery for inspection of pesticide sale outlets in order to ensure that standard pesticides remained available to the growers (orchardists) for use during spray season 2019-20.
Special emphasis was laid on plantation of high density fruit plants as a programme leading to doubling the income of farmers in the district, it read.
