SRINAGAR: The J&K High Court Wednesday directed that Solid Waste Management (SWM) bye-laws be notified through local bodies, once finalised.
The direction was passed after a status report submitted by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Pahalgam Development Authority (PDA) stated that the SWM by-laws when finalised by state authorities would be notified by local authorities.
Hearing a litigation on conservation and protection of Pahalgam tourist resort, the Division Bench of Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Tashi Rabstan noted that the suggestions received for implementation of SWM by-laws and the latest update with respect to its finalisation should be effectuated and report be filed within two weeks.
The state counsel informed that the suggestions from different stakeholders and general public have been received with respect to SWM bylaws and uploaded on website.
Earlier court had noted that despite the expiry of over two and half years from 8th April 2016 when the rules came to be notified, the local authorities, as defined in Rule 3(1)(30), in the State of Jammu and Kashmir have not framed the Bye-laws.
