SRINAGAR: The NIA Tuesday carried out searches on resistance leaders in the Kashmir valley, including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, officials said.
The NIA sleuths accompanied by local police and CRPF personnel carried out searches at nearly nine places across the valley, which included the house of Nayeem Geelani, son of veteran pro-freedom leader Syed Ali Geelani, they said.
Besides these, the houses of JKLF chairman Yasin Malik, Shabir Shah, Ashraf Sehrai and Zaffar Bhat were also raided.
The case relates to funds allegedly received by them from Pakistan through hawala channels, the officials added.
Meanwhile, clashes erupted between youth and government forces in Maisuma soon after NIA raided Yasin Malik’s residence there, leading to shutdown in the area, eyewitnesses said.
Forces restored to teargas shelling to disperse the youths.
Malik is lodged in Kothi Bagh Police Station, Srinagar.
