DEO Anantnag reviews preparedness for upcoming elections

ANANTNAG: District Election Officer (DEO), Anantnag Khalid Jahangir Tuesday chaired a meeting of Nodal Officers, ROs, AEROs at DC Office Anantnag to review the preparedness to be put in place for General Elections -2019.

The DEO called upon the concerned officers to implement the comprehensive plan for manpower management, material management, traffic plan, training of polling staff, SVEEP awareness camps and basic minimum facilities for polling stations including drinking water, power supply, toilet facility and ramp facility.

He also asked the concerned officers to workout strategy for correcting the errors in the voter list and to ensure increasing of EPIC ratio. Directing the nodal officers, he asked them to follow the procedures and report any discrepancy well in time and ensure mapping of polling stations with topography.


Jahangir Anantnag directed RDD and Education Department to ensure availability of Basic Minimum Facilities including drinking water, power supply, toilet facility and ramp facilities at all polling locations. ACD was directed to ensure construction of toilets and foot paths in rural areas whereas Education Department will provide other facilities from their own resources. The PDD and PHE Departments were directed to ensure availability of drinking water and power supply in all polling stations.

Regarding the addition and deletion in electoral rolls the Deputy District Election Officer, Anantnag informed the meeting that in all 06 assembly segments of the district, 17240 claims were admitted which include 6648 male and 10592 female voters. Out of which 5475 objections were admitted which include 2279 male, 3196 female, thus by including 11771 new voters in the district.

The DEO directed ARTO, Anantnag to submit transport plan of all polling stations within two days and also discussed about the distribution centres for polling material, collection centre/ strong rooms and counting halls and holding of awareness camps under SVEEP.

Regarding the availability of EVMs and VVPATs, the meeting was informed that 2010 EVMs /VVPAT machines are available against the requirement of 1920 EVMs/ VVPAT. The communication plan to be prepared by Police Department was also discussed in the meeting. The Nodal Officers were directed to ensure one round of election training of polling staff at booth level specially for VVPATs.

The CMO Anantnag was directed to ensure healthcare facilities on all the days including distribution of polling material, collection of EVMs, polling date and on the day of counting.

The DEO directed preparation of list of polling agents of all political parties and to ensure their participation in VVPAT training.

The meeting was attended by ADC, Deputy District Election Officer, ACR, SE PDD, Xens of PHE Bijbehara, Qazigund, DPO (Nodal Officer SVEEP), SDMs of Bijbehara, Doru, Pahalgam and Kokernag all Tehsildars of the district.
