SRINAGAR: The weathermen on Wednesday predicted rain and snowfall in Kashmir for next 24 hours.
According to Met officials, weather will remain cloudy till Thursday afternoon and most parts of Kashmir valley will receive rains and snow.
“Jammu may receive moderate rains and hailstorm,” they said.
“Plains will receive light rains till tomorrow while hilly areas will likely receive another spell or snow,” an official told Kashmir Reader.
He added moderate rains would also lash Jammu region while there is possibility of hailstorm in the region as well.
Deputy Director of Meteorological Department, Mukhtar Ahmad told a local news gathering agency that Batote and other adjacent areas would receive heavy rains from his evening as per the fresh forecast.
He said weather will significantly improve from Thursday afternoon.
“The weather would remain dry over next few days from Thursday afternoon,” he told the agency.
As per Traffic Unit Srinagar, the overnight rains triggered landslides on Srinagar-Jammu highway following which authorities had halted the traffic movement on 300 km long stretch.
“At few places in Ramsoo-Ramban sector, landslides occurred on highway triggered by fresh rains in the intervening night of Tuesday-Wednesday,” officials said.
The traffic as per officials was temporarily halted as ‘a precautionary measure’.
They said traffic on the highway will be allowed after the road is cleared.
