Srinagar: Four army personnel have been killed and one other injured in a gunfight with militants in Southern Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Reports said that a joint team of army’s 55 RR, paramilitary CRPF and SOG of Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a cordon and search operation in Pinglan area after credible inputs about presence of militants in the area.
As the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon government forces triggering an encounter.
“Four army men were critically injured in the exchange of fire and were evacuated to army hospital for treatment. However, the injured army personnel including a major succumbed to injuries,” news gathering agency ANI reported.
The reports said that 2-3 Jaish-e-Muhammad militants are suspected to be hiding at the place of gunfight.
