Srinagar: Former legislator and Awami Ittihad Party (AIP) president Engineer Rasheed along with his party workers on Saturday held a sit-in protest here against attacks on Kashmiris and Jammu Muslims.
Rasheed along with its party workers assembled in press enclave, holding banners and placards in their hands which read “Stop targeting Kashmiri people living in India” and “Give protection to Kashmiri people in Jammu”.
While talking to reporters, Rasheed appealed the Jammu administration to discharge its duty towards masses and take stern action against those who are damaging the property of Kashmiri people and other Muslims of Jammu.
“No action is being taken to protect life and property of Muslim community in several of Jammu region,” he said.
“One has a right to ask that how come it was possible for the miscreants to damage huge properties and set ablaze dozens of vehicles when call for the Bandh was given a day before and the administration was supposed to be prepared to meet any eventuality,” Rasheed said.
Rasheed said they also condemn the Pulwama attack but that doesn’t mean that the people of Jammu and other parts of India will attack Kashmiri people.
Rasheed while expressing solidarity with the civil secretariat employees said that the attacks on employees are unacceptable and government must move beyond words and all those involved in attacks on secretariat employees, stranded Kashmiri passengers should be booked under Public Safety Act.
“If government fails to do justice with the victims of Jammu violence, Muslim community will feel further disheartened and isolated which may not be in the interests of state. Government should announce full compensation to all whose property has been partially or fully damaged,” he added.
Rasheed further said: “Those harassing Kashmiri students in Dehradun and other places should not forget that it is Kashmiris who facilitate lacs of Amarnath Yatris every year and offer them everything besides love and affection.”
