Srinagar: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Wednesday announced a monthly pension of Rs 6000 for journalists who are 60 years or older. The pension scheme was announced under the Bihar Patrakar Samman Yojana, The Times of India reported.
To be eligible, the journalist concerned should have been in service for at least 20 years, the report stated. The person concerned cannot be availing pension under any other scheme.
Kumar, on Wednesday, also announced a monthly pension of Rs 400 for everyone in Bihar above the age of 60 under the Mukhya Mantri Vriddha Pension Yojna. Everyone, irrespective of caste, community or religion, will be able to avail pension under this scheme. However, government employees will not be eligible for the same, The Times of India reported. This scheme is set to come in force from April this year.
The present old-age pension scheme is applicable only to those below the poverty line.
