Presence of Leopards in Shopian villages: People advised to stay indoors during early morning, late evening hours

Srinagar: The Wildlife protection department on Tuesday advised people of Baskushan, Malikgund and Losedenow area of  South Kashmir’s Shopian district to stay indoors in the early morning and late evening hours due to presence of a leopard inthe area which has created fear among the residents.

Shopian wildlife control room in-charge Mudasir Ahmad told Kashmir Reader that they have found traces of more than one leopard in the area. “As according to the eyewitness accounts and the traces, it is a female leopard accompanying her cubs,” he said adding that the wildlife team is working to trace them out.

A wildlife protection official said that the general public of the villages and adjoining villages within a radius of eight kilometers is advised not to venture out in the wee and late evening hours.
